I’m often asked, “Should I confront him?” My answer is always, NO, NEVER!!! Here’s a definition that should explain why:

1) Challenge somebody face to face: to come face to face with somebody, especially in a challenge, and usually with hostility, criticism, or defiance
2) Make somebody aware of something: to bring something such as contradictory facts or evidence to the attention of somebody, often in a challenging way
3) Encounter difficulty: to be forced to deal with something, especially an obstacle that must be overcome
Because I’m a Love Coach, I’m only asked for advice about relationship, or personal transformation.
So that means, to have a worthwhile conversation, it needs to be heart based. A true conversation, meaning there is a speaker AND a listener, is not possible when confrontation enters the picture. So if you need to confront your partner, or yourself, just know that it’s only because you need to vent, not because you need to be heard and understood.
It’s all about being in charge of what we say and do.
Women tell me all the time, “I couldn’t help myself.” But if you were angry, or crying, and your boss walked in (pretending that you have a boss), you would be able to control your emotions. I think we should allow ourselves to feel our emotions fully, but we can choose when and how to express them.
When I’m angry, or really upset, I allow myself to let loose, but only when I’m by myself.
Then, after I’ve calmed down, I choose the time and place to talk and what I want to say, depending on the outcome I want. And always, always, I want the outcome to be based on love and mutual respect. I live in such a way that I don’t have to deal with people I don’t care about, but for the jerks, I avoid letting them bring me down to their level.
